Eric Shanteau’s Olympic Dream Ends

Former Parkview H.S. star Eric Shanteau’s Olympic dream ended yesterday as he failed to advance to the 200m Breaststroke final. Shanteau finished sixth in his heat and tenth overall with a time of 2:10.10. Only the top eight advance to the final.

Heavily favored swimmer Kosuke Kitajima of Japan set the pace in the first semi-final winning the heat in Olympic record time. Scott Spann will represent the U.S. in the finals finishing second to Kitajima in the first semi-final with a time a 2:09.08.

The Gold Medal swim will take place tonight (tomorrow morning Beijing time).

Shanteau is expected to return to the U.S when the Games end and a few days later begin treatment for the testicular cancer he was diagnosed with shortly before the U.S. Olympic Trials in July.
