Tad and Tim Holt are set to compete in the Tecate Score Baja 1000:

Ted Holt, of Dacula, said racing The Baja 1000 is not like any other race and there’s just one reason people want to participate: “Everybody who races this race does it for notoriety.”

Holt said “it’s not a big payout, and it’s not a points race.”

“People like Robby Gordon, Jesse James from ‘Monster Garage,’ Mario Andretti —- every big racer wants to race this race and wants to win,” he said. “To win overall, you need a $1 million vehicle and a $100 million team. We’re not going to just race or to just finish the race. Normally half the field doesn’t finish the race. Most of these guys are pro desert racers who have been doing this for years. But we’re going to win our class.”

Participating in The Baja 1000 will mean being prepared to deal with terrain, speed and repairs. During the race, the team will range in speeds from 5 to 150 mph and drive on everything from super-flat, dried-up lake beds to mountainous slopes.

“Different people go different speeds in different sections,” said Holt. ” … People have problems, and it’s a real long race.”
